TPO Roofing Systems
Single Ply Thermoplastic Polyolefin / Thermal Polymer Olefin is a single-ply roof membrane. These membranes are exceptionally strong as they combine weldable seam systems with the strength associated with EPDM rubber roofing membrane. The most common membrane thickness options are 45, 60 and 80 mils. There are also many different color options; however the most common is white. TPO most common roll widths are 10,8,6,5 foot rolls. These systems are easily installed and are very resistant to a variety of extreme conditions. Many TPO membranes carry an Energy Star rating and can help reduce the amount of electricity spent cooling a large building by reflecting heat away from the roof.
Benefits of Singly Ply TPO Roofing
TPO constructions come with UV protection and are extremely weather-resistant. Originally used in the auto industry because it does not expand or contract when confronted with severe weather, single ply TPO has been adapted for the roofing industry with excellent results.
TPO can be installed in one of three ways: ballasted, mechanically attached or fully adhered. Ballasted installs weigh down the membrane with some sort of weighted material and only seal edges. Mechanically-attached refers to the use of screws to secure the membrane to the roof itself. Full-adhered installs utilize an adhesive to secure the membrane to the substrate. Below are some of the commercial projects where we have installed a TPO roofing system.
PVC Roof System
Single Ply Polyvinyl Chloride products are a thermoplastic membrane with excellent weather resistance, flexibility, and tensile strength. A PVC roofing installation is able to withstand the elements and provides a watertight seal across the rooftop with the use of heat-weldable seams.
Benefits of Single Ply PVC Roofing
One important factor to consider is the installation of PVC roofing over compatible substrates. The PVC can migrate or move if installed directly onto asphalt or another anchoring material. PVC makes a great choice for projects in which chemicals may be present on the roof and also has excellent wind resistance.
Typical installs come fully adhered or mechanically fastened. The membranes have a range of widths between 6 and 18 feet, and the wider options produce less overlap, with less chance of leaks.
